Editor’s Note

Ahh, the end of the year is fast approaching. The team are digging out the decorations but we might need to invest in some environmentally friendly non alien ones – all ideas welcomed.

We have a little competition for you this year, and the question is set by Who and children’s writer, Frank Cottrell-Boyce. It’s a ripper of a question, do please check that out, and good luck!

We’ve had a brilliant year but as ever, we’re looking to improve on our site and introduce fresh new writers onto our team. If you have a passion for writing reviews, perhaps not full time but as and when you can, do please get in touch, via the emails or our social networking sites.

Hi Folks, a smaller edition this month. So, we’re hoping for a much bigger bundle next month, which will be our last for 2019. I wonder what 2020 will have in store for us?

We’re on a recruitment drive this month, for new writers, to help fill our pages this year and beyond and for a new graphic artist to join us in 2020. Sharon has had to step down from this role for personal reasons but will see us through December. We will miss her loads.

Editor’s Note

It’s been a busy, if not hectic month, and one where we overshot the deadline a bit. It couldn’t be helped. I was literally ‘up to me elbows’ in baking ingredients, recipes and costings. I discovered that although I’m quite capable of multi-tasking at some things, juggling the website Issue and creating a few boxes of baked goods, clearly wasn’t going to work. Something had to give and sadly it was Issue 74 on the actual due date.

However, now that the baking extravaganza is out of the way, I can refocus on the website. Every single article due in is ready to read, and I’ve been sat on my butt since I brought the SUV back from the garage after it failed its MOT. There were bits of alien stuck in between the seat and the boot and one of the seat belts had buckled and well you don’t really want to know what they found under the wheel arches???  Or the glove box for that matter. Ahem!

Anyhoo, Issue 74 signifies the end of Series 2 and the beginning of Series 3, and in so much that I know some of you won’t be happy that we’re covering Children of Earth – we do hope you will enjoy the content of the magazine, as it’s well worth a read, and the story by Sharon Robertson, regarding the Torchwood/Stargate Crossover is absolutely brilliant.

Andrew has been busy catching up with Sarah Jane Adventures, while Tony has been revisiting Classic Who, as well as taking us on a tour of the Cybers.

Recently, a new Channel 4 drama series in four parts, trailered on the telly the other evening, and after discovering a host of TW and indeed Who cast feature heavily in it, felt it was worth digging further for our Connections Page. Do please check it out.

Evening folks,

As it’s a two-parter episode, we decided that it was much better to merge the two names and I think, in light of current affairs in the government of the UK of late, that Frexit Wounds is quite an apt title.

It also means that next month, we’ll be looking back through Series 3 of Torchwood – Children of Earth.

Last night (4^th September, 2019) I had the rare privilege of meeting screenwriter and author Frank Cottrell-Boyce, at a small family run cinema in Annan, SW Scotland.

Boyce was up for a Special Screening of his latest film ‘Something Never Always’ starring Bill Nighy. Check out our review of film in Beyond the Tardis Page.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable film. And the signings afterwards, with the opportunity of talking briefly with him before heading home, was delightful. Although our interview had been over a grainy image on Skype, he still remembered me. Cloud 9 all night, me!!!

This month, also saw the sad departure of Terrance Dicks. See our Obituary to one of Who’s greatest writers and a huge loss to the Who world by Tony.

This month I also got to watch Angel Has Fallen and as soon as I saw his face, not Butler’s but Millson’s. I was grinning from ear to ear. His American accent was interesting but it was absolutely great to see Who entering the Big Screen.

We’ve been a busy bunch of reviewers this month, and there’s been plenty to write about. Dark Mon£y has been riveting viewing, as well as Keeping Faith over on iPlayer – the full boxset. And not forgetting latest movie – Horrible Histories, with a star studded cast, which was worth a Connections this month.

Editor’s Note

This past month (June) saw me toying with what to do with the website. I’d been thinking for a while how to bring new life into it, and quite by chance, at the end of the month, I was rewarded with three new writers – Alex Wylie, Matt Rabjohns and Jeff Goddard. Jeff has written for us before in the Fans Fiction section and delivers us yet another Doctor Who story, which you are going to require hankies for. Check out their blurbs on the About Us page – links on the Contents above.  

We bid a farewell today – to our wonderfully talented fictional writer, Christopher E. Fain who steps down from writing for us to work on his own projects, and we wish him all the very best for the future. Chris kept us entertained with his writing works ‘Heaven and Nature Sing’ and ‘Tango of the Exiles’, which encapsulated Torchwood with Sherlock and Doctor Who, all rolled into one, and every single story, I couldn’t put down. Lyn was one of my favourites. I hope one day that Chris is able to create more character stories and send one over to us to read and share.

We have so many new reviews to entertain you with. I was going to write one for Un Bore Mercher, but I think I shall wait until Keeping Faith returns this Summer, and post it then. Only fair, really.

It’s bloody good though – the series. Will there be a third, I wonder?
