"I've
crossed my own timeline. I can't be allowed to meet myself. A lot of lives
depend on this. You'll be protecting the future. That's what you're here for,
isn't it? And now I need you to put me in the morgue. Freeze me. Set the alarm
to defrost in a hundred and seven years time."
Fragments/Exit
Wounds
In the first episode of
the two parter, everyone in the team bar Gwen, were investigating an old
disused mill on a derelict estate. They were expecting to find aliens. They
were not expecting to find strategically placed detonators with only 3 seconds
left on the clock. Lying in the wreckage of the building, each of the team lie
trapped by fallen masonry, suffering levels of pain and discomfort. Owen is
awake and concerned for the falling pane of glass with the potential to sever
his head from his shoulders.
We are transported back to
the early days of when each member of the team was introduced to Torchwood.
Jack, naturally the longest serving member, takes us back to early Victorian
times. Owen, upon discovering his wife who needs a tumour removed, has an alien
feeding off her brain. Toshiko, who stole plans for a sonic modulator device,
fixed the fault, in order to save her mother from the clutches of Milton and
her team, became herself incarcerated in one of UNITs prisons with no release
date. And Ianto, who instead pursued Jack, to be accepted as part of the team
in Torchwood Three, if only for somewhere to store his Cyber girlfriend Lisa...
Towards the end of the
episode and into the second, we discover who set off the explosive devices and
why.
Captain John Hart has been
'captured' by a young but angry Gray, who wants to avenge brother Jack for all
the lifetimes he has lost.
Further bombs are
detonated across Cardiff after John who has entered the Hub unannounced, shoots
Jack 'dead', then uses the rift manipulator, causing devastation throughout the
city. Jack is pulled back through the Rift with John, to a time before the city
was a City. Striding across the field to greet him, is his long lost brother,
Gray.
Gray has plans to change
the shape of Torchwood and sets about eliminating the team. Starting with
Toshiko, while Owen is trapped at the nuclear power plant at Turnmill. Jack is
buried in the vaults after being unearthed by the Victorian Torchwood, and
distracts Gray from whatever action he was going to do next by punching the
walls of his confinement. Shocked by his brother Jack's return to the present,
Jack can only silence him by stifling him with the chloroform on the
surprisingly clean hanky. An old Victorian trick, which puts him to sleep.
At the end, Gwen, Jack and
Ianto stand emotionally facing the computer screen, where Toshiko has made a
final goodbye speech.
John Hart, decides to
stick around on Earth for a while longer, and leaves Jack and the team with
their grief.
Amy Manson
'Alice Guppy'
'Hmm.
The Doctor, he will be able to fix me. When the Doctor turns up, it'll all be
put right. You wait till I see the Doctor. First, I'm going to kiss him, then
I'm going to kill him. Transcripts of your conversations with strangers, in
various drinking dens, since you first came to our attention.'
Alice was part of the
Victorian Torchwood who first captured Jack after he came back to life outside
an inn with a bottle protruding from his stomach. Part of the Hub team, Alice
also aided Charles Gaskell in exhuming Jack's body from the Cardiff Park
location after a signal was picked up from the ring, he had been given from
Captain Hart.

If you get a chance to
watch the film Not Another Happy Ending, do it. It's a Scottish
film, with Karen Gillan as a writer who seeks publication, and Amy plays her
character Darsie, who lives inside her head, but acts outside of it. You'll get
what I mean when you see the film. It's brilliant. The film came out in 2013.
The casting and scenery are awesome. We wrote a review of the film on our Beyond
the Tardis Page.
Skipping ahead to 2015,

Julian Lewis Jones
'Alex'
'We
got it wrong, Jack. We thought we could control the stuff we found. And what's
it brought us? So much death. It's good you're here. Always did have great
timing. This place, its yours. Torchwood Three. My gift to you, Jack, for a
century of service as field operative. Give this place a purpose before it's
too late. Please. (stares at the locket in his hand) I looked inside. It showed
me what's coming. They were mercy killings. It was the kindest thing I could
do, so none of us see the storm. I'm sorry I can't do the same for you. Twenty
first century, Jack. Everything's gonna change. And we're not ready.'
Alex was the head of
Torchwood Three, who after seeing the future when he opened an alien locket

Research Facility.
Gareth's only credited
role is as Security Guard for Fragments, and Up 'n' Under as Slash, Cobbler's
Arms Team in 1998.
Clare Clifford
'Milton'
'Show
me the piece. Oh, it’s beautiful. A perfect sonic modulator. Toshiko, you've
done so well. Oh, except now you're the victim of your own success. Perfectly
situated, proven ability. You can give us so much more. Then your mother stays
with us. And your brilliance is used against her. Like this.'
When Toshiko presented the
plans and the completed sonic modulator device to a woman known as Milton, she
hoped that both she and her mother would be free of her clutches. But as
Toshiko had fixed the faults with the device, she proved more of an asset to
Milton, who was determined to keep hold of her a while longer. When Toshiko
demanded the release of her mother, Milton triggered the sonic device, fully
protected behind ear muffs, except for Toshiko and her mother. Before more harm
could be caused, UNIT soldiers burst into the room and contained the situation
and Milton and Toshiko were arrested.

Casualty in 2004.
Andrea Lowe
'Katie'
'It's
like being lost in a place you know really well; you can't get your bearings.
Sometimes it comes back to you, and sometimes. I'm sorry, Owen.'
Katie was Owen's fiancée
who suffered terribly with memory loss. It began as a possible Alzheimer’s case
but after another MRI scan revealed it to be a tumour, an operation to remove
it reveals an alien starfish living on her brain. It produces a toxic gas that
kills every member of the operating staff in the hospital theatre, including

operable.

Pale in Mosley. Played Keith in Casualty in 2002. Rev Rudkin in Judge John Deed

after Jack knocked him out with Chloroform hanky, the nurse tried to calm him
when he grew hysterical regarding his wife.

could have done. I'm giving you three month's prescribed rest. Don't come into

have is my hatred for you. I begrudge you everything. I want to rip it all from
you. To leave you screaming in the dark. I will never absolve you. All of it,
it's your fault.'
Gray was consumed by rage
that Jack was the golden boy, having lived a better life than he. So consumed,
he stabbed Jack after embracing him in the field after being transported back
