Adam was perhaps one of
the creepiest of all the episodes of Torchwood in the second series. The entity
that created the ID of Adam lived in the void between worlds. It fed off the
memories of the past and present and was drawn to this world by Jack’s most
recent and past memories. It integrated itself into the Torchwood team,
assuming links with the very person it touched, removing memories they held,
and added fresh convincing memories that allowed the team to believe that Adam
had been a member of Torchwood for three years, when in fact it was no more
than a few days, if that.
When Jack discovered the
truth, and that Ianto really hadn’t killed any of those women he was solely
convinced that he had, Jack knew that the only way to get rid of the bad memories
was for each member of the team, bar Adam of course, to take a retcon pill
strong enough to wipe out the past 48 hours. In doing so, Adam would
permanently disappear from their memories and be permanently wiped from
existence.
Bryan Dick
‘Adam Smith’
‘Wasn't
it lovely? Playing in the sand, no one knowing what was ahead. Your dad
laughing. Gray, safe and happy. I don't want to die. You take that pill and you
will lose everything I've given you. Wipe me out now and you will lose all your
memories of your father. He will cease to have existed for you.’
Bryan born Feb 1st,
1978 in Denton Holme, Carlisle, UK began his television acting career in 1992,
appearing as young Henry Pratt in The Life and Times of Henry Pratt. From there
he played roles in Merseybeat, Dalziel and Pascoe, Blue Murder, and Foyle's War
before playing alongside David Tennant in the musical miniseries Blackpool,
which had many of us, buying the box set and playing it to death. He was the
side kick DC Blythe to Tennant's love sick DI Peter Carlisle. It was a fun
series to watch, second time round.
He played Adam in 2008,
Torchwood, and although I wasn't fond of his character, the outtakes were
hilarious.
Since Torchwood he's
played Jake Barton in All the Small Things, Sykes in Being Human, Daniel
Stafford in Ashes to Ashes, Lucas Ballinger in Silent Witness, Benjamin Sammy
in Death in Paradise, Solicitor General Richard Riche in Wolf Hall and in 2018
played Ramsey Sawyer in The Split.
Demetri Goritsas
Jack's Father, ‘Franklin’
‘Run.
Take Gray. Keep him safe.’
Demetri born August 24th,
1971 in Eugene, Oregon, USA from Greek and Norwegian parents, grew up in
British Columbia and spent his adult life living in London.
Demetri played Jack's
father in Adam, as well as appearing uncredited in Exit Wounds in 2008. He
appears in the TW Declassified documentary in the episode Past Imperfect. (I
must rewatch these)
His television credits
begin in 1995 with Little Women where he played Bhaer's Student. Since then
he's played characters in both television and film, including Parker in Saving
Private Ryan in 1998. In 2002 he played a Com Tech in The Bourne Identity, News
Anchor in Thunderbirds in 2004 and a Radio Operator in Sky Captain and the
World of Tomorrow (only wish that film had been better). A year before
Torchwood Adam, he had played Asa Trenchard in National Treasure: Book of
Secrets.
Since Torchwood Demetri
has voiced video game Enslaved: Odyssey to the West with additional voices in
2010, and Apache: Air Assault. He was also Tanner in video Game Driver: San
Francisco in 2011 and Felix Leitner in 007 Legends in 2012. In 2018 was the
voice of Survivors in Overkill's The Walking Dead video game.
Lauren Ward
Jack's Mother
‘Where's
Gray? Where's Gray? Where is he, son? Where is he?’
Born June 19th,
1970 in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. Began her TV and film credits in 1997 when she
played a Student in the film comedy In & Out.
Since then has gone on to
play Alecia - IBS in Broken News in 2005, Torchwood three years later, along
with Miriam Walker in A Touch of Frost, finishing up with Kiss Me First as Mrs
Klasna in 2018.
Jack Montgomery
Young ‘Jack’
‘We
were running so fast. One moment his hand was in mine.’
Jack was born on February
17th, 1992 in Alvechurch, Worcestershire, UK. He played the Young
Jack in the episode Adam in 2008.
His acting credits for
television and film began in 2006 when he played Young Simon in Tristan +
Isolde. He went on to play Ben Trent in first episode of Primeval in 2007.
Played Jack a year later in Torchwood. He played 3 different characters for
Doctors series, from 2006 - 2010 and in 2014 played Sean McCormac in WPC 56 in
2014. Not much else is written since then, but that's not to say he's not
working away in theatre somewhere. We'll keep you posted on that score.
Ethan Brooke
Young ‘Gray’
‘Dad.
Mom said I could play too.’
There's very little detail
regarding Ethan Brooke. Since Torchwood, he voiced characters for Kinect
Disneyland Adventures in 2011. He was uncredited for his character Gray in Exit
Wounds in 2008.
Rhys Myers
Young ‘Adam’
‘Can
I play? My name’s Adam. Let me play. Before it gets dark.’
Using Jack's last memory
of his father and brother on Boeshane Peninsula beach, Adam destroyed the last
happy memory Jack held of his family by imposing a Young Adam on the beach,
forcing the younger Jack to react badly in front of his father, by pushing the
'young Adam' out of the family game of ball.
Rhys' only credit is as
Young Adam in the episode. There is nothing listed before or after this. And
believe me, I’ve tried all search channels.
