Articles Where Are They Now - Miracle Day - The New World Cast?

Miracle Day: The New World.

Taking on the 456 and Abaddon is nothing compared to what is happening in the world now. A new challenge for Torchwood. Right across the world, nobody dies. Those on their death beds. Those about to be executed for crimes against 12 year old Susie Cabina. Those with death wishes. Suicide victims. Nobody can die.

Except for Captain Jack Harkness.

Where the whole world becomes immortal – he becomes mortal!

Researching the phenomenon that is happening, the CIA become interested in Torchwood, and watch analyst Esther Drummond finds but forgets Torchwood briefly, just as the building she’s in is destroyed by a terrorist.

In Friedkin’s office, all information regarding Torchwood is taken and stored away. Just who is Torchwood and what is so special about them? And why does Friedkin want everything on Torchwood for himself?

Welcome to The New World.

Now normally I’d have a fair idea of who the cast are, if they were British, but a whole new set of faces baffle me, as following a transcript of characters, I have little knowledge on the different TV networks and stations in the US of A, and so I can’t put names to the many different reporters and cast portraying reporters in this episode, so I do apologise in advance of this article. I’ve done my best. If you know who plays which in this episode, do please message me over on our Facebook or Twitter page.

Mekhi Phifer

‘Agent Rex Matheson’

"I hate to bust up your sweet little tea party, but this isn't an arrest. This is a rendition. And on behalf of the CIA, under the 456 amendments to US code 3184, I'm extraditing this so-called Torchwood team to the United States of America. Now, get me out of here. Take me home."

Agent Rex Matheson had an agenda to rise up the ranks of the CIA, and revelling in one other agent's misfortunes, when he's suddenly caught up in his own dilemma after a lorry slams on its brakes and loosens several scaffolding poles that fly through his windscreen, harpooning him to his seat. Now naturally, this would kill any human dead, but not today, today, nobody dies, today everybody LIVES.

Since Torchwood, Phifer has worked in some well-known and popular television dramas, including White Collar playing Kyle Collins, before taking up the role of Max in Divergent, and reprising the role again for Insurgent in 2014. He played Max again in 2016 for Divergent: Allegiant.

In 2016 he also played Ambassador Moreton in Secret City. Followed by Satcha Reyna in the television series Frequency for a year. Playing Joe Baker in Chicago P.D. in 2018. Played Tommy Brown in The Bobby Brown Story in the same year. In Truth Be Told plays Markus Knox for 8 episodes between 2019 - 2020.

Alexa Havins

‘Esther Drummond’

"Hold on, hold on. I think I've got something. Sergeant Davison made one call on Tuesday at seventeen oh eight to a number that's on the UK Hickman register. That's a list of cell numbers allocated to witness protection schemes. I've traced the handset. Sending you the coordinates now. It's at fifty one degrees thirty four north, four degrees seventeen west."

Esther Drummond, the quiet watch analyst for the CIA, who has a soft spot for Agent Matheson, follows him into the search for Torchwood, and uncovers a conspiracy where they can trust nobody but themselves and Torchwood for the truth.

Since Torchwood, Havins has worked in television and films for television from 2011 - 2019. One of the longest running roles to date was as Babe Carey/Babe Carey Chandler for All My Children from 2003 - 2011, for 268 episodes. Since then has played Elle Daniels in Castle in 2012, Linda in Constantine in 2015, Pat White in The Astronaut Wives Club in the same year. Molly Stewart in Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. In TV movie Killer Vacation in 2018 played Lindsey Harris and Kate in Barry in the episode Past = Present x Future Over Yesterday in 2019.

Bill Pullman

‘Oswald Danes’

"That's right, Mister Peterssen. And when considering the persistence of the law, then the Eighth Amendment clearly forbids the application of cruel and unusual punishment, such as mine, alongside the Fifth Amendment and I quote, nor shall any person be subject for the same offence twice. The Founding Fathers practically had me in mind when they wrote the Constitution. Don't you think though? Don't you think? Because I can guarantee, Mister Peterssen, that when I talk of lawyers, I mean the team who will be suing the governor and I mean the governor himself. Not his office, but the actual man. They will be suing him for wrongful imprisonment. And I promise you that they will sue his ass to high heaven till angels sing songs of him in their laments. Is that clear?"

Nobody will ever forget the evil deeds that Oswald Danes did to poor Susie Cabina, the 12 year old girl who ‘should have run faster’. Yet throughout the Miracle he manages to sway those doubters, despite his past crimes, and becomes the new saviour of the people, people desperately searching for answers. And it’s Oswald Danes who searches and finds Torchwood, and follows them to the final showdown, in a pit in old Shanghai.

Since Torchwood, Pullman once again reprised his role as President of the United States by returning to play President Whitmore in Independence Day: Resurgence in 2016. Cosy with a Presidents role, played President Dale Gilchrist in 1600 Penn TV series between 2012 - 2013.

Played Sicilus Leonatus in Anarchy: Ride or Die in 2014. Played Brian Plummer in The Equaliser in the same year returning in 2018 for Equaliser 2 as the same character. Played Lefty Brown in The Ballad of Lefty Brown in 2017. Played himself in A Thousand Junkies in 2017.

In National Theatre Live played Joe Keller in All My Sons in 2019. Played Harry Dietzler in Dark Waters in the same year. For 24 episodes played Harry Ambrose in The Sinner TV Series. Has just completed filming of The High Note in 2020.

Arlene Tur

‘Dr. Vera Juarez’

"Rex, now listen to me. Because you might want to take something under consideration. That maybe you were lucky. You should've died last night, but when this thing happened, the miracle, it gave me time to fix you. Without the miracle, you'd be dead."

There seems an attachment between the doctor and agent Matheson throughout this series, and when she becomes a part of the CIA/Torchwood team, it brings them closer still. But Torchwood operatives never live as long and the poor Dr discovers this to her cost, after entering the camp run by Colin Maloney.

Since Torchwood, her biggest role to date since 2015 when nothing else is listed for her, played Antigone De La Vega in South Beach for 6 episodes.

Paul James

‘Agent Noah Vickers’

"They all died. So the story goes. Anyone that worked for Torchwood was killed in action. And they died young."

Agent Noah Vickers was the young CIA watch analyst who paid dearly for his research into The Family and their connections with The Miracle. One of the good guys.

Since Torchwood, James has played single characters and serial characters, in a variety of different roles, from Derek in Crawlspace in 2013, P.P. Trey Jensen in CSI: NY in same year, Max in Farmed and Dangerous for 2 episodes in 2014, Eric Block in Grey's Anatomy in same year. Back with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as a Bomb Squad Tech, again in 2014. Played Ben Gellis in The Hot Zone in 2019, and Samson Hughes for 10 episodes of Soundtrack in the same year. Plays Scott Henderson for Seed of Doubt now in Post production

Marina Benedict

‘Charlotte Wills’

"The world changed overnight, yeah? Some old British thing is not on the top of the list."

Comes across as a good friend in the CIA to Esther Drummond, but really a double agent. Nasty piece of work.

Since Torchwood, played Veronica for True Blood television series in 2013, Colonel Oksana Zhirkov in Burn Notice in the same year. Played Ingrid Magnusson in Bones in 2014. Ellen Clark in Criminal Minds in 2015. Played Toni Cannava in 6 episodes of Flesh and Bone in 2015. Played A&W in Prison Break in 2017 for 8 episodes. ‘Alexander Peterssen’

" ... the governor's office would like to offer its condolences without an admission of liability for any physical distress caused by events beyond its control."

Alexander Peterssen worked for the Governor's office and visited Danes after his execution, offering condolences from the governor himself. He was soon put in his place by Danes who advised Peterssen to release him or his lawyers would have a field day with his employer, personally.

Since Torchwood, Guest has played many singular roles such as Jimmy Koller in Hawaii Five-0 in 2011, Lenny in In My Pocket in same year. Trent in Apples and Oranges. Penny Bunton

‘Female Hiker’

"We have got proper shoes. We can get across nice and quickly."

Clearly working for The Family or some secret organisation or other who identified that Gwen Cooper was in fact living in a remote area of the Welsh countryside with her husband and baby, before Rex Matheson arrived and the chopper that would tear a hole through her house.

Bunton's roles began with Torchwood in 2011 and seem to have ended in 2018 with Speechless, playing Woman #2 in Speechless. Played Boddington Receptionist in RED 2 in 2013.

Ron Butler

‘Senior Professor’

It’s difficult to say at which point the Senior Professor comes into the story. There is a Professor (surgeon) who is brought in to examine the bomber at the CIA Archives building, and there’s others who are brought in to discuss on news headlines about the latest Miracle event.

I'm assuming, although could be wrong, that Jung plays the guy who performs an autopsy on the burnt body of the man who blew himself up in the archive building.
