Connections Mrs Caldicot's Cabbage Wars by DJ Forrest

Written by Vernon Coleman and adapted by Malcolm Stone. Mrs Caldicot's Cabbage Wars is about a woman, who, after her husband's death, seeks to become independent although her son, and JB (not John Barrowman), would much rather she did not.

A star-studded cast, this is an entertaining and light-hearted British comedy film.

There were so many familiar faces during the film that I just had to add it to this month's Connections.

We've done the research, so you don't have to.

Cast

Pauline Collins played Thelma Caldicot. Played Queen Victoria in Doctor Who episode Tooth and Claw episode 2006 which launched the beginning of Torchwood. Pauline played Samantha Briggs in Doctor Who story The Faceless Ones, in episodes 2 - 6 in 1967.

Peter Capaldi played Derek. Thelma Caldicot's son. As we all know, Capaldi has been involved in the Whoniverse for more than just playing the Doctor. He played the Doctor for 45 episodes, but first came to our notice in The Fires of Pompeii in 2008 playing Caecilius. He was the voice of the Doctor in 2014 video game The Doctor and the Dalek. To me, it was his portrayal of John Frobisher in Torchwood's Children of Earth in 2009 that brought tears to my eyes in his final scenes.

Sheila Reid played Joyce. Played Gran in Doctor Who stories Dark Water in 2014 and The Time of the Doctor in 2013. Played Etta in Doctor Who story Vengeance in Varos parts 1 & 2 in 1985

Frank Mills played Leslie. Played the Radio Telescope Director in Doctor Who: Terror of the Autons episode one, in 1971.

Isla Blair played Matron. Played Isabella in The King's Demons in parts 1 & 2 in 1983.

Was the voice of the Devil in BBC Torchwood audio drama The Devil and Ms Carew.

Wanda Ventham played Victoria. Played Jean Rock, Thea Ransome and Faroon for 13 episodes of Doctor Who from 1967 - 1987.

Angela Bruce played Gina. Played Brigadier Winifred Bambera for Doctor Who story Battlefield, parts 1 - 4 in 1989

Annette Badland played Cook. Played Margaret Blaine in three episodes of Doctor Who in 2005.

Camille Coduri played Jackie. Ironically, played another Jackie - Jackie Tyler - for 15 episodes of Doctor Who from 2005 - 2010. Appeared in several Doctor Who Documentaries between 2006 - 2016.
