2011 – present
Vera is written by Ann
Cleeves, who also wrote the Shetland series and novels. Vera is a British crime
drama series starring Brenda Blethyn who plays Detective Chief Inspector Vera
Stanhope of the Northumberland & City Police. She’s very much a modern day,
middle aged, Miss Marple and never stops till she’s uncovered the truth, even
if it means going around the houses several times until she gets there. She
battles constantly with her health and has close bonds with her young sergeants
Joe Ashworth and Aiden Healy.
The series was first
broadcast on the ITV channel on 1st May 2011 and has 8 series under
its belt. We look forward to a ninth series!
As ever, we’ve done the
research, so you don’t have to.
