Happy Birthday Burn Hugh Gorman


Did you know on this day in 1979 episode 1 of Destiny of the Daleks was broadcast?  It starred Tom Baker as the Doctor with Lalla Ward as his companion, Romana II.  Writer was Terry Nation and Director was Ken Grieve, Script editor was Douglas Adams.

The Doctor with a newly regenerated Romana are on Skaro caught between the Daleks and the Movellans who are intent on exhuming the old scientist – Davros.



In 2012 Pond Life was broadcast on BBC Red Button.  It starred Matt Smith as the Doctor, with Karen Gillan as Amy and Arthur Darvill as Rory.  The episodes were written by Chris Chibnall and Directed by Saul Metzstein.  The mini episodes were broadcast over five days (27th – 31st August 2012) on the Doctor Who website, but the full five episodes were broadcast on 1st September 2012 as part of the BBC Red Button Service.

All events of Pond Life episodes geared us towards Asylum of the Daleks. 

Also on this day in 2012, the first episode of the seventh Series of Doctor Who began with Asylum of the Daleks. It was the 226th story of Who and starred Matt Smith as 11th Doctor with companions Rory Williams and Amy Pond. Writer was Steven Moffat, Director was Nick Hurran. The episode also stars Jenna-Louise Coleman, David Gyasi, Nicholas Briggs.

A hooded messenger informs the Doctor that a woman, Darla von Karlsen requests his help in freeing her daughter.  It means a journey to Skaro, into the heart of the Dalek world, to the Parliament of the Daleks.  He’s reunited with the Pond’s and surprised by the Dalek’s that just for once they don’t want to exterminate him, but that they require his help.  Aboard the Asylum planet where insane Daleks are housed, a transmission has been received by the Daleks, from a woman called Oswin Oswald, who claims to be the Junior Entertainment Manager on the starliner Alaska that has crashed into the Asylum...
