Did
you know on this day in 1965 The Crusade was broadcast. It was Episode
1 - The Lion and it was Season 2. William Hartnell was the Doctor, with
companions William Russell, Jacqueline Hill, Maureen O’Brien. Julian Glover and Jean Marsh also appear in
this story.
Written by David
Whitaker and Directed by Douglas Camfield the story tells of the TARDIS crew caught
up in a Holy War between Richard the Lionheart and Saladin, the Saracen ruler.
In
1971, Episode 3 of The Claws of Axos
was broadcast; it was Season 8 and
starred Jon Pertwee as the Doctor with Jo Grant as his companion. Roger Delgado also appeared as the Master and
Tim Pigott-Smith appeared as Harker.
It was written by Bob
Baker and Dave Martin and Directed by Michael Ferguson.
In exchange for fuel for
their rocket ship the Axons give the British Government a gift, a lump of
Axonite which unbeknown to them functions only to remove all life energy from
Earth.
Others celebrating their
birthday today are: Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen (1845-1923) Rontgen was a German
physicist who produced and detected electromagnetic radiation in a wavelength
range, in what we know of today as X-rays.
He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901. You may recall Smith And Jones episode where
the Doctor claims to have played with Rontgen bricks in the nursery back on
Gallifrey!
You celebrate your
birthday with Julian Glover who
played Richard the Lionheart in The Crusade, in Season 2 of Doctor Who. He’s also known for his role in Indiana Jones
and the Last Crusade amongst many other roles.
Hope you have a
fantastic day!
