On this day, in the year
1965, Season 2 of Doctor Who - The Powerful Enemy - The Rescue was
broadcast.
It starred William
Hartnell, as the first Doctor. It also
featured William Russell, Jacqueline Hill, Maureen O’Brien and Ray Barrett. Barrett also provided the voice of
Koquillion. There were only two episodes
in this particular story. The writer was
David Whitaker, the Director was Christopher Barry, and Music was by Tristram
Cary.
The Doctor having left
his granddaughter Susan behind, travels with his companions Ian Chesterton and
Barbara Wright to the future and lands on the planet Dido (not the singer). They meet a young woman called Vicki who is
in hiding with an injured man by the name of Bennett after their space ship
crashes and the inhabitants are killed by the local natives. Vicki and Bennett are living in fear of the
hideous alien creature that goes by the name of Koquillion.
Although no star of
Torchwood or Doctor Who celebrates their birthday today, we can tell you that you
share this day with one of the world’s most prolific sci-fi writers of his time,
Isaac Asimov. (1920-1992) A writer who
brought us The Foundation Series, The Bicentennial Man, I, Robot, The Robot
Series and many more.
