Editor’s Note

It takes a fair bit of time to shake off the Christmas overload of Biscuits and cakes and junk food and plough yourself back into the daily grind. Although the sudden warm weather has helped chase the blues away and kick start the mojo and writing again. That burst of energy and inspired thought that put Chapter Two of Return to the Fold together, almost became something to behold, had something not put the dampeners on that a few days later. Ha well!

Chapter Three will materialise in Issue 68, but am pleased, while the mojo was firing on all 4 cylinders, I did manage to put some words together, yay!

Can I just say - Congratulations to Olivia Colman for winning an Oscar the other night for her performance as Queen Anne in the film The Favourites. Absolutely fantastic!

We’ve been working through an alphabet of Profiles again this month, this time starting with the letter ‘B’, and it’s surprising during the research just how many bad guys have been the ‘scourge of the Galaxy’.

Joshua Weevil is also a scourge of the Galaxy, along with every other chocolate bar he manages to get his hands on when nobody is looking!
Seriously, I can’t take him anywhere!

We’ve got a wonderful interview with Seren Whyte, who you may remember from the episode Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Those of you who follow our Facebook Page, may notice we’ve been posting photos of Seren and her sister during their Rallying tours. Go give them a follow and look out for their rallying blogs/vlogs, they’re really cool.

In case you were wondering where our Doctor has been, we managed to locate him recently at the London Comic Con, where he caught up with a few other incarnations of the Doctor, and the lovely Mister Master, John Simm, as well as catching up with Jim Wilkins, who designed the wonderful comic versions of ourselves – Torchwood style!

If you think you have a story to tell about a journey you took to a Who related event, or went location hunting, or if you have a story up your sleeve to share on our Fiction page. Or if you want to share a review of a film by a Who or Spin off writer, or stars one of your favourite Who/TW/SJA cast, then why not drop us a line – find us on our Website page, or over on Twitter and Facebook.

So, without much further ado, welcome to Issue 67 – Reset

Season 2 Episode 11 – Adrift

This episode for me was a sad episode where I felt for the families and friends of people who have been taken away from us be it illness or death.  Yes in Torchwood it was due to the Rift taking these people and then they return falling through the Rift. It had me thinking, if that happened to someone I loved, would I want to see them again in a state that I may not recognise them or be older etc.  This episode pulls on your heartstrings.

Locations From Out of the Rain by John Bond-Winstone

Season 2 Episode 10 – From out of the Rain

Hello my avid readers, I know I have been really quiet for the last few months.  I am truly and deeply sorry for not giving you any locations for a long while.

This is one of the darker episodes and it terrified me as I have a thing, where I do not like circuses because of the creepy things there.  This episode had me hiding behind my cushion most of the time and only fed to my nightmares of the evil circus workers

Ynysangharad Park Swimming Pool, Pontypridd
This location is used where the Ghostmaker and Pearl talk about bringing back the others back.

How to get there:
Catch a train to Pontypridd from Cardiff Central Train Station
Once at Pontypridd Station - Exit the station onto the High Street,
Then head north, crossing the Broadway.
As you pass Mill Street, turn right and then cross the river to the park.
The swimming pool is to the north.

37 Romilly Crescent, Cardiff
This location is used for Jonathan’s home and Studio.  Multiple scenes are filmed here.  Especially when Jack points the camera at the Ghostmaker and he disappears when Jack exposes the film.  This location is used also when Jonathan is rushing to get inside with the film.
This property is a residential property, so if you do go there then bear this in mind.

How to get there:
Catch the Bus 33 from Westgate Street
Get off at Llandaff Road.
The entrance to the yard is on the east side of the road, near the bus stops by Glynne Street (to Cardiff Centre) and Carmarthen Street (to Fairwater etc).

The Paget Rooms and Victoria Road, Penarth
These 2 locations were used to film the scenes inside the foyer and outside the Electro Cinema.

How to get there:
I have directed you to this area once before, so why not head over to the Guide for the episode from Season 1, Small Worlds.  You can get my directions there :p

Whitchurch Hospital, Park Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff, CF14 7XB
This location was used for the scene where Christina was being assisted by Jack in her wheelchair.  The scene is shot in the gardens and also on the bandstand.

How to get there:
By Train from Cardiff Central Station:
Catch Train to Coryton
Get off at Coryton and then exit the station
Turn left, heading down Park Road until you reach the hospital on the right-hand side.

Marine Parade, Penarth, CF64 3BG

How to get there:
There is no direct bus or train service, so my suggestion is to drive.  Use the Satnav or Google Maps to get to this one.

Locations Dead Man Walking & A Day in the Death

Season 2 – Episode 7 & 8 – Dead Man Walking & A Day in the Death

Well hello there everyone, I have been quiet the last few issues, so I do apologise for my absence.  I have had to save the universe a couple of times with my trusty companion in the TARDIS and also leave Jack hanging around like a lost puppy (in my not so fantasy world…work duties called).  So I do have a few issues to catch up on with my locations guide.  Well this issue is going to look at the locations for 2 episodes as in my eyes these are a 2 parter.  Enough of me rabbiting on, let’s get on with the locations.

St Matthew’s Church, Dorothy Street, Trallwyn, Pontypridd

This location is used for the scene where Jack wanders into a church full of Sleeping Weevils.  In this episode the church is called St. Mary’s, but the actual church is St. Matthew’s which is in Pontypridd.  The location is disused but the rumours are that back in 2007, there was planning permission for it to be turned into flats.

How to get there: (By Car)

Road: A470 – Exit the A470 at Pontypridd (A4223), and then head off the roundabout on Bridge Street/West Street.  This bears right into South Street and then left onto Middle Street.  Continue along this one way street until you reach Ralph Street; turning right, follow it up to the church.

The Friary, Cardiff, CF10 3FA

This location is for when Owen is wandering around aimlessly.  This is not far from the Location used in Day 1.  It’s about a 5 – 10 minute walk from Cardiff Central Bus Station.  Go back to the Day 1 guide for the directions.

This night club was used for a location when Jack confronts Owen in a bar.  The club back then was known as Oceana but has been rebranded as PRYZM.  Also around the back of the club is Crockherbtown Lane which is a location used for a scene when Jack and Owen get arrested by the police.

How to get there:

From Cardiff Bus Station, head out along Wood Street and walk towards St. Mary’s Street.  Walk up St. Mary’s Street until you hit Wharton Street.  Turn Right here and walk along Wharton Street.  Turn left on Working Street walk up until you get to the Abbey National Bank.  Turn Right and walk along Queen Street until you have Queen Arcade on your Right.  Turn Left and walk up the Friary until you come to the Hilton Hotel on your Left.  Turn Right and walk along Greyfriars Road.  Oceana is on your Right opposite the New Theatre.

How to get there:

This location is used when Owen meets Maggie who is contemplating committing suicide.  This location is Cardiff University’s building, so you will not be able to gain access to the roof where the scene was filmed.
