The Coffee Shop It's Competition Time!!!

We're going to be holding a small ongoing competition, whereby every month, one lucky winner will have their work featured on the front cover of our magazine.

There are moments in our lives when we’ll witness something atrocious, be it in a news headline, or out on the streets, or in newspapers. Or a magazine, depicting the state of the planet due to pollution.

The climate is changing and bringing with it, a host of new and strange wonders. We’re getting warmer summers and colder winters, and we’re experiencing weather systems quite unlike those perhaps 10 or 15 years ago.

While watching re-runs of Torchwood and Doctor Who, a quote will often resonate with you. It would match the atrocity you’re staring at on the screen. You could quite literally imagine Captain Jack Harkness utter the words that sum up the feelings of many.

‘Welcome to Planet Earth’ springs to mind.

Or what about Doctor Who and the long speech by 12, during the Zygon Incursion/Invasion?

There are so many quotes out there and I’m sure you’ll find one that suits the purpose.

What we’re looking for are pieces of artwork made with whatever app you use, be it Pic Collage such as the examples below, or Pizazz, or whichever you feel comfortable using. And taking events unfolding in the world today, match it with a quote from the Whoniverse. It could be from any character, not necessarily any main character. I’m sure you’ll find one that works.

You might even find it in one of the Who/Torchwood novels you’re currently reading.

Whichever it is, try and add the characters name underneath the quote, in a smaller font if you’re able to.

Alternatively, you may have heard a song verse or chorus that would ideally suit characters from Who or Torchwood or even SJA.

So – get your thinking caps on and we’ll await your postings for Issue 71 out on 5th July. Be sure to have your artwork in to us no later than 1st of every month, so it can be judged in plenty of time.

And before you ask, the Weevil will not be judging anything more than fruit scones at a WI fete!!!

The Coffee Shop My Holiday Surprise by Kirsty Price

Having spent a week at Unity Farm, Brean Sands, my holiday was over. Before journeying home, we decided to pop into their weekly market which runs on a Saturday and Sunday. My little surprise came while we looked at a stall selling bags and wallets. I looked up and instantly recognised a man also browsing the stall. I said to Mum standing nearby 'I'm sure he was in Torchwood.' The man instantly looked up, shocked. He confirmed he played the UNIT Captain in COE when I asked and was surprised that I would have remembered that since it was ten years ago.

It was only Charles Abomeli. He was a lovely man. We spoke about different parts of COE. He was surprised to discover that I was deaf, which was refreshing in itself.

The best things always happen on the last day.

I told him about Project: Torchwood, so Charles, if you are reading this, it was very nice to meet you, thank you for your time and good luck for the future.

The Coffee Shop Adventures in Palm Springs by Tamie Wiggins

Flight Plans

Money was, unfortunately, a bit of a toughie, which resulted in me waiting a little longer than I would’ve liked before I could book my flight. The natural result was that there were very few options available for the timeframe I needed–the flight I ended up booking required me to get up at an ungodly hour just to make the drive to the airport. Now, I wasn’t the one driving, but even so…!

Packing
In addition to the flight time, there were a few items I’d forgotten to pack until the last minute (my camera, of all things), and I had to find a way to fit them into bags that were already full to bursting. And I had tried my level best to avoid needing checked luggage, something that John seemed to find surprising when I mentioned the possibility of needing to mail some of my luggage back home after he and Carole provided all sorts of extra goodies that I had to figure out how to pack.

Shockingly, everything fit on the way back with room for a couple more souvenirs. Who knew wadding up my clothing and shoving it in the bottom of the bag took up less space than folding it neatly, and that even when packing my jeans instead of my shorts! And the tote provided at the workshop was big enough to slip my laptop bag inside, while still small enough for the airline’s "personal item" requirements, so this wasn’t the concern I’d expected, either. The only thing I bothered to pack neatly for the trip back was my pyjamas, and that only so I could use them as padding for the music CD John had given everyone.

There were also things I couldn’t take along, and other things I brought that I ended up never using. Neil Gaiman’s Graveyard Book, for instance, stayed at home. Thankfully I could use my phone (in airplane mode, of course), so in addition to attempting to record the world outside or dozing off on the plane, I had the Kindle app and my to-read collection with nearly 900 books and growing to keep me occupied. I just really, really needed to charge my phone as soon as I touched down in Palm Springs, and I kept the charger in the more-accessible "personal item" (e.g. my laptop bag) for the flight back. And for future trips I'd probably skip the mp3 player and headphones.

Anything else I didn’t need is something I’d probably still want to take along just in case: the 360 camera that took up less space than the GoPro, a cell phone tripod mount that never left my luggage until I loaned it to John on Day 3, and of course anything medicinal. Plus, I caved and bought a selfie stick my first day back to work, so I’ll need to take that into consideration when packing for future trips.

Master of Disguise
Methinks John was a ninja or some such in another life. Or I’m just really super unobservant.

Or both.

Why do I say this? Well, on Day 1 I had arrived at roughly 10:30 am. My room was ready which meant, even though it was well before official check-in time, the hotel let me put away my stuff and veg out by the pool.

Now, I was in and out of that room a few times the first couple of hours, so naturally I didn’t see everyone as they arrived despite my attempts to work on my people-watching skills. So when one of the hotel staff provided paperwork (the unfortunately necessary, but entirely expected, medical waivers) delivered by John himself, I’d assumed, just as naturally, that he’d happened by while I was changing into my swimsuit. In fact, a few of my other fellow writers were already present and lounging by the pool, and they’d made a similar assumption–none of us had seen him, so he must have been by when none of us were outside.

Until the workshop officially began. John and Carole suggested we introduce ourselves in the form of a Two Truths and a Lie game, and John immediately said, “Tamie’s had all day to think of hers, I saw her by the pool this morning.”

Cue my impression of a deer caught in the headlights, followed by a slightly panicked-sounding, or perhaps not-so-slightly, ‘How did I not see you?’

But this was not to be the last of his disguises. While I’d missed him in the role of "secretary" on day 1, on day 2 I saw him trying to sneak into the workshop as a decorator and then later as the elusive pizza delivery guy, and on day 3 I finally caught him in the act as the handyman!

Filters
John swears up and down that he has no filter. Not merely a broken filter, none whatsoever. And if you follow him on social media, or have met him in person, you’d probably find that easy to believe.

And yet…. during the Two Truths and Lie game, he spent an awful lot of time filtering his guess about my introduction through the lens of wanting to make sure I wouldn’t take it the wrong way. 😉 How did my introduction go that he’d be concerned about that, you might ask? Well, the details given about me were that I had never been on a trip without my parents before, that I have a Master’s Degree, and that I am professionally published. John said since I’m a Whovian he knows I’m intelligent 😳 so he didn’t want me to think he was saying I’m not, and long story short he decided the Master’s Degree was the lie. (No, John, I have two short stories, both self-published, and I stumped my cousin the same way. 😀 Though I wouldn’t object to needing a different lie one of these days. I wonder what the group would have thought of my experience on a motorcycle?)

Contrast this with a comment I made to him on Day 2 after I got a headache from how much we were all laughing. I’d said that being in his presence could be hazardous to people with migraines…. and only long after the fact did I realize that it might not have sounded like the joke it was intended to be. (Insert facepalm image of your choice.)

To quote the Eleventh Doctor, “You know how you say a thing in your head and it sounds fine…?”

Upon realizing what I’d said, I told him that I thought he had a better filter than I do, but he continued to insist that he doesn’t have one. He also said, after I mentioned that I have a weird sense of humor, that he doesn’t think it’s weird but rather unique. (Tomayto, tomahto. I think I have a pretty good idea of why he said that but I’m still calling mine weird. And occasionally warped. 😉 )

Strange Conversations
I’m sure, no matter how much they enjoy their work, celebrities like John and family, families don’t want to talk only about the shows they’ve been in. Yet some of the other things I found myself talking about seemed like weird topics given that I barely knew anyone at the workshop…. and John and Carole weren’t even the ones responsible for some of these conversational choices. Or at least not entirely.

Let’s see, some of the things I talked to the Barrowman family about:

At one point a few of us were discussing alcoholic beverages, in which John listed off some drinks he likes and some he doesn’t–pointing to the selections the hotel offered as he went–which led to my own comment about how I’d never had an alcoholic drink I could stand the taste of…. but that I was the only one in my family who liked this Irish Cream Cheesecake recipe I’ve tried making a couple of times. Unlike John’s assessment, merely mixing it in isn’t enough for me; the alcohol–any alcohol–has to be cooked off or I find that the entire recipe tastes terrible.

Or a suggestion from Carole on how to cope with sunburn when my bra strap (which is uncomfortable in the first place) doesn’t lay in the same spot as my swimsuit strap (which had influenced the location of the burn).

Tame enough. But then there was the moment I’d asked John how, when our very small group was beginning to get very loud to my ears due to everyone chatting at once, he managed to focus on a single conversation. He did give me a useful suggestion that I think I’ve already been doing without really thinking about it, but when I added that I was hard of hearing, he told me to go ask Scott…. which led to Scott and me discussing general sinus issues and hearing problems.

On Day 3, this resulted in me attempting to show Scott the game Blindscape. Attempting definitely being the operative word here–surrounding conversation was loud again at the time, making it hard to hear the instructions at the beginning of the game, and Blindscape really needs headphones to play it properly. Also show is an ironic word choice in this case, as the game is navigated entirely by sound.

And speaking of sinus issues, for some reason I had gotten on the subject of why I felt the need to pack nasal spray.

Staying Healthy
As fun as the trip and workshop were, there is also a serious side to consider in the form of medicinal and other health requirements.

Case in point, I had decided that the initial flight time (getting up at 2:30 AM EST) would be the only un-fun part of the trip, and the Imp of the Perverse decided to punish me by giving me a Charley Horse half an hour after I'd arrived at the hotel. While I was in the pool. Thankfully I was already on the ledge in the shallow end, having moved there to deal with what felt like an impending foot cramp. The Charley Horse finally let go after the muscle locked up a third time in as many minutes, and, lacking access to any bananas (the breakfast nook was closed that time of morning), I had to make do with hobbling to my lounge chair and waiting water bottle as soon as I dared move the offending leg. When the cramp finally let go, I was right back to enjoying myself, but the muscle required stretching well into day 3 to rid myself of any lingering tightness.

Remember, my readers, when you’re flying (or doing anything that requires being seated for a long period of time, like extended gaming sessions), always make sure you have a chance to stretch your legs. The longer you must remain seated, the more important the stretch. These airplanes don’t have a lot of leg room, unless you’ve paid extra for your seats, and a cramp could very well be the least of your worries.

Then of course there were other concerns to pay attention to: the sunburn, the allergies, the migraines, the staying hydrated, and any other personal concerns.

Flight Plans Redux
Day 4 of my visit to Palm Springs, after the workshop was officially over, brought with it something I both looked forward to and dreaded.

Looked forward to because, even though my work schedule and flight plans were based on the expectation that I’d be heading home on Monday, my flight was very late in the day and I didn’t want to only be there for the workshop. I wanted to do some exploring and this was my best chance to do so.

Dreaded because I hate driving and hadn’t bothered to so much as rent a car while I was there. And I was the last of the attendees to leave, meaning I’d either need a cab, or my ability to explore would be dependent, once again, on someone else’s terms.

That being said, those of us who were still in Palm Springs by that time did manage to get quite a bit of exploring in. I didn’t get to try out some of the more touristy events like the gondola–even my own flight time would’ve made that difficult–but we wandered around the town a bit and checked out some of the gift shops. For lunch, three of us were introduced to the In-n-Out Burger, but even before that we’d found dessert in the form of the absolutely heavenly Dole Floats.

Future Visits?
Workshop or no workshop, I look forward to returning, but on very different terms. Like I said, I hate driving, but if I could get enough time off from work I would love to ride my motorcycle that way, maybe even head farther west yet and ride along the Pacific Coast Highway at least once.

Not only that, but I think Palm Springs would be a nice place to live some day. Money depending, I see myself as someone who might do a lot more traveling–I’ll need a great deal of practice before I consider doing it on a regular basis, but if anything, this trip has taught me that I can travel on my own terms, that I am personally and mentally capable of doing so–and who only has a permanent residence for legal reasons and for someplace to crash when I want to take a break from the wandering. Thanks to my allergies, there is nowhere I can travel where I won’t experience some kind of problem, so I wouldn’t necessarily choose any location with that criteria. But if I can get used to drinking three times as much water as I normally do (maybe five times in the summer?) and being more diligent about using sunblock most of the year, I think I can safely include Palm Springs on my list of places I’d like to live.

Though I would have to learn to cope with the earthquakes. But just like my allergies, what place doesn’t have some kind of problem?

The Coffee Shop Buster Smith's Shocking Secret - Competition

If you’re a fan of a Soap Opera, then you will know that, every character has a secret, be it shocking, deceitful, murderous or otherwise, and to be fair, they wouldn’t be on the show, if they didn’t have one.

So, it comes as no surprise that new arrival, Buster Smith, ex-football celebrity, is hiding a shocking secret. All will be revealed some time later on this year, but that gives us plenty of time to think what it could be. Perhaps in some soap opera twist, Buster is Nana McQueen’s love child – another McQueen to add to the family tree – but in all fairness, perhaps not.

If you know Hollyoaks, the characters, the plots and the twists, then you’ll know that sometimes a shocking secret isn’t often as shocking as you are led to believe – but then, in light of certain news events recently, that perhaps it could be closer to the bone than you think. I personally, have no idea what Buster Smith’s shocking secret is, and am as keen as the next person to find out.

Hollyoaks has already played out the paedophile story and the physical abuse one, the manipulative granny story and the scheming bitch story – but then again, there’s still room for another scheming bitch story…

So, the competition.

We want you to come up with as many ideas as you can think of, for what Buster’s shocking secret may be. You don’t have to necessarily be a fan of Hollyoaks – but it may give you a head start in knowing the characters – but even if you’re not a fan, a chance guess may be enough to win – who knows.

We’ll collect your ideas over the course of the season and the person to guess as close to this reveal, will win the prize.

A signed photo of Buster Smith actor, Nathan Sussex, which let’s be fair, is well worth sitting on your desk or wall.

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning, is to drop us a Tweet using the hashtag @ProTorchwood #BustersShockingSecret and tell us what you think it is.

You can also enter on our Facebook Page by just adding the hashtag BustersShockingSecret and your answer. Or post below this article. Please don’t attempt to send smoke signals, as it often gets lost in translation!!! And don’t tell the Weevil, that also gets lost in translation.

You can enter as many times as you want. Nathan Sussex (Buster) will choose the winner once the BIG REVEAL has been made.

The Coffee Shop The Fans Talk - Rex Matheson

A little while ago on our Facebook Page, we asked the Fans about Rex Matheson, and what they thought of the character. Rex of course, is a popular character, but for all the wrong reasons as far as many of the fans are concerned.

Despite having embraced my feelings about the character, I felt it was only fair to share those of the fans. Up until this point, I had agreed with many of them. The fans didn’t hold back in their feelings however regarding the Rex Matheson.

Claudia Lindner For me it already starts with the CIA - them being portrayed as people who only want to save the world is just a no go. Do you know how many countries the CIA has destabilized, thrown into chaos and how many democratically elected governments they have overturned? So, the CIA for me is something Torchwood would fight. And not only is Rex CIA, he has no characterful that would reconcile you with him. His aggressive assertiveness, his ignorance it just slaps you in the face every scene he is in. And after that whole journey with Torchwood, has he learned anything?

If I could go with what I like about him I'd be done immediately. Nothing. What I don't like about him? He is the most un-torchwoodesque character that ever appeared on the show. He is so two-dimensional. He is arrogant, homophobic, self-righteous, he thinks he knows it all and that he is far superior to Torchwood, while he knows and understands nothing, not what Torchwood does or is. He constantly insults TW and especially Jack as idiots or "clowns" while he is the biggest ignorant and idiot. One example: in MD ep. 3 Jack wants them to deal with PhiCorp the TW-way, but for Rex of course that is idiotic and he wants to seek support with an ex-CIA guy, his ex-teacher or trainer. Jack reluctantly agrees. Of course, when he tries to meet him, it is a set-up and a complete failure. When the team meets in some backstreet afterwards Rex of course makes Jack responsible for that, claiming it is his fault because Jack doesn't know how things are done in the 21st century because he wears a 2nd WW military coat and so he must be stuck in that period's thinking. While that set-up was his, Rex's idea, not Jack's. That is typical for Rex. He is ignorant, unable of original thinking, but thinks he is the sharpest knife in the drawer. Which he clearly isn't. And he has no likeable characteristics, nothing which would make you like him, let alone identify yourself with him. While I loved the writing of the MD-story itself, the character Rex is their biggest flaw.

Diane Phillipa A whining homophobic ranting incompetent nitwit who couldn’t lie his way out of a paper bag. A man with no possible likeable qualities. Worse this a*hole got more time on screen than the star of the show. And to top it off he's now immortal. Biggest slap in the face to every true TW fan.
Like we would ever trust the CIA considering Rendition and all the torture they advocated and carried out. Jack would never work with the CIA I agree he would see them as the enemy like TW one

Antje Strauch I got the impression that they wanted to set up their own Torchwood:LA show, similar to the CSI shows, and he should become the lead of that. No need of the British actors anymore then. And yes, I wouldn't have minded so much if Jack had not felt like a guest actor in his own show.

Lyn Carol I like him. As long as Jack can stay in charge and always win in a fight, Rex is ok with me. I didn't like him at first, but he's not so bad. And Jack needs someone to fight with, who is still on his side when he needs him. Obviously, things change, and I would rather the original team were together, but at the moment, it is what it is. And there is a little humour and mutual respect hiding in there somewhere.
I agree about not wanting the CIA involved. But if we get Rex away from them and he spends more time with Torchwood, he will learn a lot I'm sure. That's if they decide to keep him!  He needs training. Free thinking. He is used to being told what to do by 'the man'!

Betty Dee He came across as arrogant. I like the actor (he was on ER and I enjoyed his performance there), but Rex was just... maybe a bit too unlike all the other characters that appeared on Torchwood. He was supposed to be a protagonist but became an antagonist because of his behaviour. He wanted to be in charge and didn't even think that maybe Jack would be better suited for that job. The CIA was trying to get him and he didn't seem to even question the fact that he lived and survived that terrible accident or was at least a bit thankful for "The Miracle" to have happened when it happened.

MD just wasn't Torchwood anymore. Too much change in total. They could have called it something else and it would have worked, too.

Amanda Kendall He wasn't a good fit in the series. He was overly sceptic, antagonistic and homophobic. All told, not my cup of tea

Kirsty Price He's mouthy. And nasty to Jack over gayness and he separated Gwen and baby

It’s clear from their views that Rex was Mr Popularity but for all the wrong reasons. Of course, not everyone shared the majority view, and I hope more will come to level out the argument. Perhaps there is hope for Rex beyond the Miracle, beyond Exodus Code, and the comics. If he can swallow back his pride long enough to share in the fight to save mankind.

The Coffee Shop Rhys Williams

Rhys Williams is an essential part of the Torchwood team.  Once on the side lines, keeping a distant eye on his wife Gwen, making sure Jack Harkness, who he always considered a threat to his relationship, wouldn’t make a move on her.
Rhys Williams was killed by Bilis Manger in the Hub where Gwen thought he’d be safe; he was back in his flat after Abaddon was defeated by Jack, when time was reversed.
He took a bullet for Gwen in ‘Meat’ and from then on, he knew all about Torchwood, about alien life, about Gwen’s job, about the risks she took to protect him and ultimately the world, but most of all, that above all else, Gwen would always come back to him, back to her family.

So we thought it would be interesting to find out what the fans thought about the loveable character that loves his pints and his footie and has a soft heart, but is fiercely protective of his family.

What are your favourite Rhys quotes, moments in the series, in audios and in books?  If you have any stories about Rhys that you’d like to add or any favourite photos – email those in so we can add them to this.

You can post your favourite quotes and moments in the comment box below…

Claudia Lindner It must be the one from "Exit Wounds": "I'm keeping a lot of secrets. Like a time agency based in Cardiff". Lol. Classic Rhys!

I think Rhys was so popular because he was so grounded, he was the ordinary, round-the-corner guy when confronted with aliens. Lol. And he was so good-humoured, you have to like him and an all around loveable, nice guy - and you always felt a bit sorry for him, that he put up with Gwen.

The Coffee Shop Caption Comps: Reset

Torchwood: Reset Caption Comps

This month we were planning to only post one Caption, but our choice held back some who couldn’t think beyond the gutter!!! So after much searching we found this little gem.  It was a tough decision to find the winner this month as everyone’s comments were brilliant.

What do you think he is saying here?

Sue Whiteley:  It's this big.

Claudia Lindner: Jack: "Oh Time Lord, would you give me a Tardis-Benz, my friends all drive Tardis-Porches..."

Ianto Tarrant: Owen, a leather bird is not a goth chick, it's a pterodactyl.

~Tosh~: It was a lovely sunny day.  I was minding my own business when suddenly it went dark and when I looked up there was this beautiful leather clad.....

Betty Dee:  "Dear Lord, please make Gwen stop talking!"

However we did after a while receive a few funny comments from the Martha photo, so we felt we just had to post it up.

What do you think she’s talking about here?

Ianto Tarrant: Ianto reckoned his was bigger by that much, something about tape measures?

Claudia Lindner: Martha: I'm a medic and I know you guys things can get this tiny when exposed to cold.  So I was really worried about the Doctor, when we once landed in an ice world, I can tell ya!"

Well done to the winners of this month’s Caption Comp.  If you want to join in, come LIKE our Facebook Page.

The Coffee Shop Torchwood Returns to Audio - Have your say!

Torchwood Returns to Audio

The most exciting news to come out of January has to be the news of Torchwood’s return if only with Radio plays but it’s coming back and that is good news.  We asked the fans what they thought to the news and the views were mixed.  Reached 447 views.

~Jack~ What's great to know is that Torchwood hasn't been abandoned, by the actors or by the writers and it's wonderful news to know that RTD will be at the helm again.

Rhiannon Cork New Nothing is actually confirmed yet it mught not happen yet John said on Twitter its just an idea

Katja Armbruster He said it's an idea that Carol and he write one of the episodes. But that the Radio plays come is a 100% as far as I understand.

~Jack~ From what I'm reading from the articles online it seems there are to be 3 or 4 radio plays but they've not begun recording yet so that indicates to me that it's far from just an idea.

~Tosh~ For those who have hearing problems. Do as I do. Headphones. I miss a lot due to a hearing problem, so I wear my earbuds to focus the sound. Works great with mumbling Broadchurch lol ~ Tosh

Tamie Wiggins Hmm... I never have any luck with earbuds. My ears must be shaped wrong.
On the other hand, I have this ginormous set of headphones that fully covers my ears and provides decent sound--nothing a professional would use, I'm sure, but more than good enough for me.

Even so, books, or TV with subtitles, is always a better option for me if that option exists.
Especially since I'm now learning my problems may be due as much to a sensory processing disorder (not uncommon with things like Attention Deficit) as to actual hearing problems--ANYTHING vocal is hard for me to retain if I have nothing but sound to go by. (Case in point, I rarely listen to the radio or vocal music because I CAN'T listen to it--John's recent album being one of my rare exceptions--and I don't talk on the phone or do voice chats unless I absolutely need to, but I've yet to have trouble with "mumbling Broadchurch"  with or without headphones or subtitles)

~Tosh~ A TV series would have been fabulous rather than radio, but I'll take what I can get lol maybe if this gets good figures the BBC will be encouraged to make a new TV series. So I encourage ALL our followers to tune in. That way it'll register on their radar!

Tamie Wiggins There is that option, certainly... provided, of course, that the radio show is on a station we get. Living in the US doesn't make this easier, you know.

Jan Swanton Do we know if all the radio stuff that has been broadcast has been released on CD? Every now and then I scan Amazon for new CDs and books but I blush to say I've never actually listened to them when they were broadcast!

~Jack~ All the radio plays that have been broadcast so far have been released on CD. The last load were The Lost Files, check out Ebay too, that's where I bought mine from

Jan Swanton Thanks. Good to know I am not missing out. Yep, have The Lost Files. Excellent as ever.

~Jack~ One of my favourite audios is Ghost Train read by Kai Owen, although love them all really. I look forward to hearing the audio (if they ever bring it out) of The Men Who Sold the World as that is a great novel if you ever get to read it

Jan Swanton Well, on the +side. They kept Dr Who going through the lean years with audio episodes and it does mean you can use original actors who may have changed their appearance. It is definitely better than nothing and some of the audio only stuff we already have is top notch.

On the -side, it's a cheap cop out. It may not necessarily lead to a new TV show, but we can only live in hope. After all, Exodus Code is just sitting waiting to be filmed. It is skilfully written so you can even film a lot of it in a quarry (g) and doesn't have 'expensive to film' requirements.

It comes down to RTD and the BBC. But all in all, good news - so long as they release them on CD. I'm bound to missed them when they are broadcast, as I rarely scan the radio pages 'in case'.

~Jack~ Yes this is my hope too, I'd like the discs to listen to as I can't often guarantee I'll be around or be able to pick up the digital radio signal

Kirsty Price Hell no. Not impressed. I'm supposed to understand a radio? Are they not thinking properly?

Betty Dee Awesome how many reactions this entry has gotten so far!

Caroline Warboys This sooooo has to happen !!

Janice Adams Radio plays are great. Of this is the only way we are getting them back that is fine with me. TV or a movie or two would be something I would love too. However there is always the problem of getting the human actor to look as ageless as the character he will be playing as the years progress. Radio has no problem with that.

Pauline Howard I can't wait I loved the others and thought they are really good so bring it on !!

Paul Buckton will it continue with the team after Miracle day? Jack, Gwen and Rex. Or the original team set during season 1?

Ianto Tarrant Better than nothing at all, so long as the original cast are playing their characters.

Anne Adam I like the radio plays

Caroline Stolze There have already been Torchwood radio plays with the cast on BBC radio ages ago and I loved them! Looking forward to it!

Rhiannon Cork New Lets just be happy they're considering doing a radio show first of all

Jo Rita Raymer I'm so very happy. It’s been a long time.

Kirsty Price Tosh.... Try being completely deaf. How would that work?

Claudia Lindner Well, I'm really looking forward to the radio plays, I hope it will be the whole original team in it. I don't see any issue getting to listen to them, if they are aired with the BBC, and with other stations, a lot of them can be listened to on the web internationally, and if not there are always workaround, so I don't see any reason for being all negative about it because of that.  Of course I would love a new TV series of TW, but who knows, if radio plays are successful and fans show they still want Torchwood.  It will take some time, until they are going to be produced, I think. They all have to find the time to do it and they yet have to be written. But yay, I love the news and hope there will be a chance for more TW on TV.

Rhiannon Cork New it would be great if the radio plays were actually confirmed first, maybe if the radio plays were a success they'll also consider a TV series, that would be pretty amazing but it would have to be original cast. Like what if Ianto had a kid no one knew about seeing as we know next to nothing about his life and Gareth could just be a scruffier rebel instead of pristine

Betty Dee I'm not having trouble hearing but not being a native speaker would make it hard to understand the radio plays - if I can ever get my hands on them.

I'm way more used to American English and I was not impressed when I found out that my Torchwood DVDs don't have German subtitles. I usually watch DVDs with subtitles turned on. When I put them on I put the English subtitles on because sometimes someone mumbles and that makes it even worse to understand someone.

Movie (TV or cinema) or TV series would have been my preferred choice. Plus it sounds as so far they are just planning on the audio plays. The BBC still might slim that down to just one.

Major issue for me is really to get my hands on these - legally. I think every non-speaking Torchwood fan will be majorly pissed about this because once again we are left out. (Although having to wait for ages to just get it dubbed on telly isn't any better - but then there are usually DVDs one can get their hands on.)

On a business level I think they choose the audio plays because production costs are slimmer. But then they can't distribute it the way they can with a TV series or a movie - spreading it world wide. I have no idea if the radio plays ever got released on CD or for download but I bet other fans record them first and share them. With DVDs there's usually the incentive of getting the extras when you buy them - but here... I think they really need someone who is good with numbers production wise and could point out where they can make more money. I bet even just in reruns Torchwood still makes them some money. (Miracle Day was just on German television in November and December.) I doubt that reruns on the radio play will get them a lot of money.

Would love to hear/read the view of someone in the USA or Canada or Australia. So many pages are blocked nowadays for listening or viewing stuff unless you are inside that country that is broadcasting it. Sure, there are ways, but it's a pain in the arse plus you never know if you are still in the "legal" zone.

Tamie Wiggins As a fan who is hard of hearing, I'd have to say, no, radio plays would not be enough--nor would audio books, for that matter.
I'd need print- or e-books at LEAST--transcripts don't count--but new TV episodes would obviously be best.

Lesley Buffy Williams Would rather watch it like but if radio the only way we can have TW back then why not.
