Beyond The TARDIS The Fly Guy Review by DJ Forrest

The Fly Guy

“It’s a creepy thriller which looks at how we create and whether we can control what we create, while following the interconnected stories of a drug dealer, a bodyguard, an investigator, and a writer. How much of ourselves do we create and how much can we never destroy?” – Colum Sanson-Regan

Colum Sanson-Regan is a multi talented singer/songwriter, and a David Tennant double that is now branching out as a writer.  In his first novel, The Fly Guy, Martin Tripp is a writer who is struggling with a portion of a story which he just can’t solve, and shelves the story.  It’s something we writers do encounter, we shelve the story, we mull through it, over coffee, supper, while at work, we still can’t make sense of the plot, so we put away the story and leave it, bury it.  Maybe something will come at a later date.  But for now, there are other pressing things to do, such as work, bringing in money and having a life!

In the novel, Martin Tripp begins to see someone he recognises but can’t imagine where from.  It’s that creepy moment when a particular face stands out from a crowd, who appears at random moments throughout the day, or who stands behind you in a lift, or on a street corner, just staring at you, as if looking into your very soul.  The sort of person you expect to find standing over you as you wake from slumber.  The thing is when Tripp realises who the man is, it rocks him to the core.  He shouldn’t be seeing him at all.

It’s a brilliantly executed novel that keeps a steady pace throughout and keeps the reader focused on the happenings of the characters as they unfold.

If you’re a crime buff then this novel is right up your street, and if you visit the website you’ll find plenty of interactive investigations to get your detective brain working.
