Articles Justin McDonald


Justin Mark McDonald born 21st March 1983 in Gateshead, England was awarded a scholarship by the prestigious Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London where he gained a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Acting.  He was trained using the Meisner technique.  After completing his studies early Justin began his acting career in 2005 when he played Ben McCallister in the series Distant Shores, for ITV, Granada in Series 1, episodes 1 – 6.

Later he played Matthew Samuels in Holby City in the episode “Live and Let Die”, a year later after a role in The Bill and Afterlife, he took the role as Matt Stevens in Torchwood Series 1, Episode 2 “Day One”  as the unlucky lad who made out with Carys Fletcher who was at that time possessed by the gas alien. 
In an interview with us, Justin tells of the experiences behind the scenes, of the green screen moments and the working on set with Carys Fletcher actress Sara Lloyd Gregory. 

Justin hasn’t only appeared in television roles, he’s also appeared in films, including his first major film as young William Heelis, in ‘Miss Potter’ (2006) with Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor.  He played Steve in ‘And When Did You Last See Your Father?’ (2007) with Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth which was based on the memoirs of Blake Morrison.

Justin also provided the voice for Frank, the lost brother of Eric Simmons in the video game for the Wii, ‘Cursed Mountain’ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursed_Mountain.  A PC version of this game was released on February 5th, 2010 in Europe. For details of the game, click on the link.
